Philadelphia area liberty activist and all-around good guy Robert Fernandes is doing civil disobedience the right way. He has set a terrific example by not only founding a holiday for children and adults alike to celebrate entrepreneurship and free enterprise, but also shows that disobeying bad laws can be done proudly and openly. This week, Robert put out a press release, reading, quote:

On Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 1:00pm in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square, a group of activists will participate in an annual tradition known as Lemonade Freedom Day by setting up a lemonade stand without a permit.

The event received tremendous media attention two years ago when activists were arrested on the front lawn of the US Capitol building for selling lemonade without a permit. Now in its third year, the event is part of a national observation of an activity that is undertaken by children as an expression of the nation’s enduring ideals of liberty, entrepreneurship, and community commerce.

Conceived to serve as a means of educating the public about the encroachment on our civil and economic liberties by an ever-expanding government, the motivation behind this national event is to preserve the rights of individuals to engage in free trade between one another without unnecessary, restrictive, and downright harmful legal interference.

Robert Fernandes, founder of Lemonade Freedom Day and the father of three, was inspired to create the event upon learning of various incidents across the nation in which the selling of lemonade by children was interrupted by law enforcement. These shutdowns stem from the lemonade stands’ lack of government permits to sell refreshments and their subsequent failure to perform a federal kitchen inspection. Many feel that inspections are unnecessary in the case of children’s lemonade stands.

Regarding his reasons for starting Lemonade Freedom Day, Mr. Fernandes said, quote, “The lemonade stand is something that most of us can relate to. Many of us have operated lemonade stands when we were kids. Many of us have purchased lemonade from a child’s stand. That’s why I am calling for every adult and every child to open a lemonade stand without a permit in solidarity this August 10th regardless of your location.”

He also says he feels as though the issue of lemonade stand regulations is really only symptom of a larger issue. “It’s time we say enough is enough. Today, because of the laws of the federal government, we see individuals being threatened with fines and jail time for growing gardens or collecting rain water. Farmers get in trouble just for having certain livestock that the government deems illegal, or for selling raw milk. The list goes on and on. You know our society is in bad shape when family farmers are being threatened with jail time.”

Mr. Fernandes encourages individuals from across the nation to participate by starting their own illegal lemonade stands. Supporters expect that this year’s events to be the biggest yet.

Last week Mother Jones magazine reported that the Concord Police applied for a grant from the Feds to buy an Attack Truck. Their stated purpose? Meeting the daily challenges of domestic terror groups such as the Free Staters. Now Police Chief John Duval says he no longer believes the Free State Project or Occupy New Hampshire are domestic terror threats. Quote, “I wish I would have worded things different in retrospect. I understand why their eyebrows are raised about that.” He offered no apology and has not indicated whether or not this nullifies his application for the attack truck.

Ian Freeman reports at http://FreeKeene.com that at least 215 people declared their personal independence by signing the Shire Society declaration at the 75th annual Cheshire Fair! It was the 2nd year for the Shire Society booth at the fair and we got an upgraded spot this year and were fortunate to be located across from Porcfest favorite, the Juice Caboose!

Amusingly, the Cheshire Democrats were set up a few spaces down with a lame booth featuring the nationalistic American flag (ours had the peace flag).  On their table all they had was some photocopied papers about how great government healthcare is and about their position on gun rights (contrast to our colorful, graphically interesting fliers).  They, like most political booth operators just sat there and waited for people to approach them (we actively pitched to passers-by).  However, they at least deserve credit for trying. The Cheshire Republicans were nowhere to be found.

Like last year, we asked passers-by to sign the re-designed paper version of the Shire Society declaration and hundreds did! Our biggest day was Saturday, with 77 signers. Several Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree DVDs were sold and one person even joined the NH Liberty Party. In addition, hundreds of informational flyers were distributed including: Foundation for NH Independence, NHJury.com, Don’t Take the Plea Deal, FreeKeene.com, Keenevention, FPP.CC Newspapers, and the excellent Philosophy of Liberty trifold.

Thanks to the dedicated, liberty-oriented volunteers who came out to connect with members of the community and share the ideas of freedom.  It was a great time and most people we talked to were very receptive, even to “radical” ideas like secession.  We’re coming back next year.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to stop and sign, or even consider signing the Shire Society declaration.

In late June, State Police stole Garret Ean’s camera. They were waiting outside his home, and waited for him to be alone before approaching. Apparently, they had a search warrant signed by the infamous Judge Burke, but it was mysteriously sealed until yesterday. Finally the cause of the investigation is revealed: The city attorney, Thomas Mullins, who happens to be suing Garret for Robin Hooding, alleged that Garret had wiretapped him. Thom’s buddy, Judge Burke signed the order telling the New Hampshire goon squad to steal Garret’s camera, and that’s where we stand today. The entire incident was captured on film, but there is no word yet on when Garret’s camera will be returned to him. Robin Hood goes to court on Monday.

Ademo Freeman, the founder of the decentralized police accountability organization http://CopBlock.org, is suing the bureaucrats calling themselves “the town of Greenfield, Mass” and the Greenfield police officers who arrested him for filming in 2010.

For the “crime” of filming police officers at a police station, he and his partner Pete Eyre were charged with “felony wiretapping.” He and Pete courageously represented themselves in court and convinced the jury to find them NOT GUILTY in July 2011.

Now, 2 years later, Ademo is suing the individuals who violated natural law by wrongly caging a peaceful man.

The complaint alleges that the Town bureaucrats are responsible for having not provided training to officers about the public’s constitutional rights to film law enforcement, and that as a result of the failure, quote, “it was highly likely that the Greenfield police officers would unconstitutionally arrest people for openly recording police conduct or conduct of other governmental officials.”

When Ademo and Pete questioned why they would not be permitted to film ‘the people who work for them’ , Defendants Dodge and Other Greenfield Police Officers placed Ademo & Pete under arrest for trespassing.

They were kept overnight in a cold cell without their pants or blankets. They were denied from making a call to reach legal counsel. They did not have an opportunity to be released on bail. Ademo’s mobile home was illegally searched and then towed. The Greenfield Police kept their cell phones and camera as evidence.

This kind of criminality demands accountability, and who better than the founder of police accountability website http://CopBlock.org to pursue personal justice in this issue. Ademo doesn’t seek departmental accountability, but names names: Todd Dodge is the criminal. He is the defendant who stands charged of acting with reckless disregard for another man’s constitutional rights.

Ademo says he suffered from symptoms of “emotional distress” after being charged, even though, quote, “he knew he had not violated the law, but he worried that a felony conviction would result in a substantial jail term.”

According to the lawsuit, the police arrested Ademo to intimidate him, and to serve as a lesson to Ademo and others that attempting to openly record police officers in Greenfield could result in arrest. The police intentionally caused criminal charges to be brought against Ademo withOUT probable cause and WITH malice.

Ademo’s lawsuit alleges a number of violations including against freedom of speech, the state’s Civil Rights Act, freedom from malicious prosecution, due process, and freedom from retaliation.

Ademo is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, and the payment of legal fees and costs in his suit against Greenfield.

The case will be heard by US District Court Judge Nathaniel Gorton.

The defendants have yet to file an answer to the complaint.

Darryl points out that Rand isn’t for ending the long-failing war on terror. In fact he’s FOR hunting and killing terrorists with drones, turning faceless bureaucrats into judge, jury, and executioner. Concord Police have labeled Free Staters domestic terrorists, so would Rand Paul have the government hunt and kill them?

In the past week, law enforcers have arrested and issued tickets to over 120 people for singing without a permit inside the Wisconsin Capitol. The disobedient singers have returned each day to sing songs making fun of Republicans and the governor. A conservative group has sought and obtained the government’s permission to sing inside, but the other singers argue they don’t need a permit to exercise their free speech rights. The first amendment of the constitution supposedly guarantees, quote, “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”. Somebody might want to inform the law enforcers. Singing is not a crime.

A Wisconsin animal shelter took in a baby deer who lost his mother. Giggles, named for the laughing sound he made, was happy, healthy, and friendly. After being nursed back to full health, he was scheduled to be released to a wildlife reserve. But instead, just one day before returning to the wild, a swat team of armed bureaucrats raided the animal shelter with guns drawn. Sheriffs along with agents of the Department of Natural Resources busted in shooting, and the baby deer left in a body bag. When the shelter asked why the police couldn’t simply call the shelter on the phone, they actually replied that they don’t ask people to voluntarily give them what they want, comparing the shelter raid to a drug bust. Similar to a drug bust, the police were tipped off about the baby deer from an anonymous tip. Don’t be that guy.

The militarization of police has escalated measurably in recent years. The Concord Police Department in New Hampshire, like many police departments across the country, is attempting to purchase a tank using free money from the Department of Homeland Security. They made national headlines, however, when it was discovered that in their application, they planned to use the tank to combat, quote, “daily challenges” from members of the nonviolent group the Free State Project. The Free State Project is a New Hampshire based non-profit organization with the sole mission of attracting 20,000 pro-freedom people to the Granite State. Their website specifically states, quote, “Anyone who promotes violence, racial hatred, or bigotry is not welcome.”

To discriminate against “Free Staters” for their pro-liberty, pro-peace, small government ideological beliefs, and to defame an organization in the manner set forth in the DHS grant is unconscionable, and unconstitutional.

On behalf of FSP participants, President Carla Gericke has published an open letter in which she respectfully demands, quote,

1) A retraction and amendment of the grant application to remove all references to “Free Staters.” You are reminded that a condition of receipt of the grant’s funding is: “Funding may be suspended or terminated for filing a false certification in this application or other reports or document as part of this program.”

2) An itemized list by calendar day of the “daily challenges” presented by “Free Staters” to the CPD. Please list individuals, not a class of people.

3) A written letter of apology from both the City and CPD, which includes the following statements: “The Free State Project is not a domestic terrorist organization,” and “Free Staters do not pose ‘daily challenges’ to the Concord Police Department.”

If you want liberty in your lifetime, learn about the Free State Project at http://FreeStateProject.org .

In 1942, a group called the White Rose Society issued a series of prophetic warnings to all humanity. Unfortunately at the time the warnings fell on deaf ears. The White Rose was a non-violent, intellectual resistance group in Nazi Germany, consisting of students from the University of Munich and their philosophy professor. The group became known for an anonymous leaflet and graffiti campaign that called for active opposition to dictator Adolf Hitler‘s regime.

The six most recognized members of the group were arrested by the Gestapo and beheaded in 1943. Today, the members of the White Rose are honoured as heroes.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Don’t just sit there. Do something to spread peace today. The future depends on it.

Glenn Greenwald from the Guardian reported Wednesday yet another bombshell about NSA spying. It’s called XKeyscore. The NSA uses it to collect, quote, “Nearly everything a user does on the internet.”

The NSA called Snowden a liar and denied the ability to see your online content. Now you can see the government’s powerpoint slides for yourself. They were lying again. Those given the blessing from government are able to use a piece of software with drop-down menus filled with excuses for spying, and boom: they’ve got access to the full content of your emails, your private facebook messages, and your full browsing history. In addition to emails, websites and metadata, XKeyscore also allows the analyst access to an individual’s internet activity in real-time.

When asked why he didn’t reveal this information sooner, Greenwald responded that he has published almost 2 dozen exclusive articles about NSA spying in the past 7 weeks. He added, quote, “There are thousands upon thousands of documents and they take time to read, process, vet, and report. … There is a lot more to report still. Accuracy is the number one priority. That takes time.”

The good news is, Andy Greenberg at Forbes reported Wednesday that the same day this latest Snowden revelation broke, the director of the NSA was heckled at a speech. He was speaking in Las Vegas when John McCoy, a 30-year-old security consultant, interrupted with some thoughts of his own. He shouted, quote, “I don’t trust you!” Another person from the audience joined in, quote, ““You lied to Congress. Why would people believe you’re not lying to us right now?” The NSA Director was visibly shaken. He tried to shake off the comments as gracefully as he could, but ultimately, the damage had been done. Truth had been spoken to power.

Fortunately for Snowden, RT reports that he has finally been given asylum in Russia and has left the transit zone of the airport. He can now be transported to the United States only if he agrees to go voluntarily.

The US Army has ordered all of its personnel NOT to read the Guardian article revealing NSA spying. Quote, “Do not go to ‘The Guardian’ news website as they have TOP SECRET slide show on the main page and you will be flagged.” The email continued, quote,

“If someone is not included on this email inform them this website is off limits. If anyone has visited this page today and clicked on any ‘NSA program’ slide show please inform me immediately. It is much easier fix (sic) an issue before it becomes a problem then (sic) after it becomes a disaster.”

It’s a bit backwards that Snowden narrowly escaped the land of the free to find safety in Russia. He may feel safe, but in Russia, public displays of affection by gays, including holding hands or displaying symbols like a rainbow flag, are punishable with violent arrests and jail time. This doesn’t just include Russians. Foreigners face similar penalties plus deportation. At least one Olympic athlete, openly gay New Zealand speed skater Blake Skjellerup, has already pledged to wear a rainbow pin during the Olympic games held in Russia later this year.

And in street theater news, a giant tub of Crisco appeared next a famous Detroit statue depicting a fist. The giant container was open and had an indentation from the fist. Although the artist is unknown, the message to Detroit City Council is clear.

Yesterday Illinois became the 20th state to allow medical cannabis. These 20 states directly contradict the Federal Government’s scheduling of the drug as having no medical purpose.

Last Friday, Philadelphia activists held the seventh in a series of monthly demonstrations aimed at ending enforcement of modern prohibition. The activists make a display of themselves openly smoking cannabis in large, peaceful groups. A moment of marijuana reflection was recognized at 6:20pm in solidarity with brothers and sisters in Colorado, where cannabis is legal. 3 participants were detained and given official orders to either pay $175 for possessing cannabis or to appear in court for crimes against the state. The 3 immediately returned to the protest, where peaceful people continued to openly smoke cannabis. As of this recording, one of the detainees, Darrell Young, has decided to pay the fine. Danny Panzella of http://DoesPotCureCancer.com will be pleading not guilty, forcing the state to prove its case against him in court. The third detainee was not able to be reached for comment. Regardless of Danny wins in court or not, but the state will have expended more than $175 trying to extort him. Imagine the impact this would have on law enforcement if hundreds of activists were willing to take these citations to court. It can be tough to find gutsy activists willing to stand up for their liberty — that’s why so many activists find it strategically advantageous to concentrate our efforts in one geographic location: the Shire.

Concord is the capital of New Hampshire, with a population of about 40,000 people. Last fall, the Concord police department requested a quarter million dollars from the department of homeland security so that they could purchase an armored military style tank called a BEARCAT. The last two letters in the acronym BEARCAT stand for “Attack Truck.”

Concord’s City Council unanimously approved the grant application for a new BEARCAT. But in the months since, some have raised concerns about just how and when such a vehicle would be used.

Concord wouldn’t be the first city in New Hampshire with a BEARCAT. Less than 25,000 people live in Keene, yet they have one. Manchester too. These just happen to be the two places where the Free Staters have gathered.

The New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union is concerned about over-militarized policing tactics, and for likely good reason:

In its grant application, the Concord Police said New Hampshire’s experience with terrorism, quote, “slants primarily towards the domestic type,” and, quote, “the threat is real and here. Groups such as the Sovereign Citizens, Free Staters and Occupy New Hampshire are active and present daily challenges.”

It’s unclear why a tank would be necessary for local police to address what are demonstrably non-violent movements.

Speaking of the Free Staters, Libertarian Internet Celebrity Amanda Billyrock made a video in which she signs the pledge to join 20,000 other liberty lovers in moving to New Hampshire for more freedom. Learn more at http://FreeStateProject.org

An interesting thing happened in the bitcoin world yesterday. Bitcoins can be transferred from person to person more quickly when an optional fee is added. One person accidentally sent a payment including a fee of 2.5 bitcoins, or roughly $250. In a shockingly generous move, the mining pool that received the hefty tip actually returned some of the money to the sender. This is all recorded in the public ledger, which you can see for yourself. Mistakes like this are rare, but it’s comforting to know that the bitcoin community is good people. Minutes after Temar Boggs heard that 5-year-old Jocelyn Rojas had gone missing, he noticed a suspicious car careening in and out of the side streets of his neighborhood.
The 15-year-old was hanging out with his friends at an apartment on Thursday afternoon when he heard the news. So he and another friend took to their bikes to search for Rojas.
He told reporters that one car in particular caught his eye. It turned around at the top of a hill where several police officers were standing. It began turning in and out of side streets in the neighborhood. Boggs gave chase on his bicycle. He got close enough to the vehicle to see a little girl inside. He made eye contact with the driver, an older white male, who apparently got spooked enough to let the little girl out of the car.
Boggs said the girl ran into his arms and asked to see her mother. She has since been united with her family, and the town is hailing 15-year-old Boggs as a hero.

The cost of solar panels has dropped 80% in Spain, but If you were thinking of buying some to save money on energy, you can forget about it.
People calling themselves the Government of Spain issued a “royal decree” this week taxing sunlight gatherers. The state now threatens you with fines as much as 30 million euros if you illegally gather sunlight without paying a tax. The tax is just enough to make sure that homeowners cannot gather and store solar energy cheaper than state-sponsored providers.
Before the decree, it took 12 years to recover the investment in a residential installation of 2 and a half kilowatts of power. Following the decree, it will take an additional 23 years.
Corporations always consider it “unfair” when any other company can do things faster, smarter, or cheaper than they can. The buggy whip industry once protested cars.
Today, land-line telecom companies have to compete with wireless and they don’t like it. Now, we see protests about VOIP (voice over internet protocol).
Technology marches on. But France does not like it. The French solution is to tax Skype because it has an “unfair advantage”. This is an age-old unwinnable argument.
The ultimate irony is France’s preposterous “unfair advantage” argument was lampooned by French economist Frederic Bastiat back in 1845 when he penned ‘Petition of the Candle Makers’.
In his article, candle makers were incensed that the light of the sun could be had for free. The sun’s unfair trade advantage was to the “detriment of fair industries” who could not compete against the sun’s price.
Something had to be done to “shut off as much as possible, all access to natural light, and thereby create a need for artificial light” so that “industry in France will encouraged”.
The moral of the story is that well-intentioned bureaucrats cause more harm than good by punishing advances in technology. The crippling effect regulators have on technology has real consequences: Rather than saving money on energy and passing on the savings to consumers, which would result in higher quality of life for all; instead innovation is hampered, and opportunities for improvement are missed.
And in classic politician style, the new decree is written in such an unscientific and unspecific way that it actually criminalizes the opening of one’s own eyes: Quote, “If you get caught collecting photons of sunlight for your own use, you can be fined as much as 30 million euros.”

Some eight weeks after the revelations that shook Washington and made Edward Snowden a household name, the NSA whistleblower appears to be getting everything he wanted.
Independent polls reveal that the public is increasingly concerned that the government is not finding the right balance between surveillance and privacy.
40 percent see the NSA activities not merely as intrusions on some Americans’ privacy rights, but as unjustified intrusions.
Snowden may walk free. When his identity was first revealed by The Guardian, Snowden worried that he might be abducted or killed by the CIA for his leak. Holed up in a hotel in Hong Kong, it wasn’t clear whether or not Snowden would end up back in the United States to face criminal charges.
Now it appears that Snowden is about to become a resident of Moscow — a guy with a job and an apartment who’s waiting to figure out which Central American country he wants to retire to.

It’s not everyday a cop makes the peaceful resistor list, but Justin Hanners of Auburn, Alabama makes the grade! He thought the police were about protecting and serving the people. That’s why it didn’t sit right with him when his new boss pressured the force to make quotas for traffic stops and citations. Justin felt that this was harassing behavior. When he stood on principle and refused to pester innocent people for petty victimless crimes, he was fired. This happens all the time in police forces, but what makes Justin different is that he had the courage to record conversations with his superiors discussing the quotas. This type of information, while known about, is very rare. Here’s a clip:

In just a few days, Justin has garnered support from thousands of people on his facebook fan page. This is an example of why good people who stand up for what’s right are better than people who go along to get along. Do what’s right, and good people will support you.

They escape from aquarium tanks. They locate underwater mines. They can recognize themselves in a mirror. Now, a new paper published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science claims that dolphins recognized their own name when called.

The dolphins produce and respond to high pitched signature whistles that have a little bit of a melody. They come to the boat when their own name is called, but they tend to their own business when the names of other dolphins are used. The research also seemed to indicate that they learn and use the names of their families and friends.

In a related story, well-intentioned bureaucrats in India have banned the use of dolphins in captivity for commercial purposes such as entertainment. In doing so, India joins Costa Rica, Hungary, and Chile, giving the justification that dolphins share so many characteristics with other sentient beings that they have been declared “non-human persons”. Funny—human persons can be in captivity, but non-human persons can’t. Maybe eventually this principle will be universally applied so that one day all people can be free of captivity, traveling the earth freely without carrying their permission slips from agents of the state.

The “prisoner’s dilemma” is a familiar concept to just about anybody that took Econ 101.

The basic version goes like this. Two criminals are arrested, but police can’t convict either on the primary charge, so they plan to sentence them to a year in jail on a lesser charge. Each of the prisoners, who can’t communicate with each other, are given the option of testifying against their partner. If they testify, and their partner remains silent, the partner gets 3 years and they go free. If they both testify, both get two. If both remain silent, they each get one.

In game theory, betraying your partner, or “defecting” is always the dominant strategy as it always has a slightly higher payoff in a simultaneous game.

This theory has been around for a long time, but it hasn’t been tested…until recently. The results were not what you’d expect. Prisoners and students each had an opportunity to participate, and the results revealed a much stronger inclination to cooperate to reach a mutually-desired outcome. What’s interesting is that the game requires blind trust from both parties, and you don’t have a chance to retaliate or make up for being betrayed later. Yet prisoners are still significantly more cooperative in that scenario than expected. Can you explain the results, or is it just human nature to cooperate with our fellow man?

With the addition of New Hampshire this Tuesday, medical Marijuana is now legal in all 6 states which comprise New England. Ironically, the Live Free Or Die state was the last among them to be added, although still well ahead of the rest of the country. Although now legal for medicinal use in 19 states, cannabis remains illegal federally, as even state-sanctioned dispensaries are being raided by men calling themselves the federal government. Eventually people will see this type of behavior as aggressive violence no different than what occurs in war. One small group of men is pointing guns at people and stealing from them, not because they are saving the day but because they are following orders.

One thing agents of the state can’t steal are your bitcoins. Get started with bitcoin at http://WeUseCoins.com .

In other news, a federal judge has ruled that Nebraska cops must return over $1 million confiscated at a traffic stop from a woman who saved the money $1 at a time during her 15 year career as an exotic dancer.

The money belongs to Tara Mishra, 33, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., who began putting aside her earnings when she started dancing at age 18. The money was meant to start her own club and get out of the stripping business.

State troopers confiscated the money in March 2012 after searching the car on a speeding stop.

The state trooper found the money and suspected it was connected to drugs. He arrested everyone in the car. Police found no evidence of drug activity in the car, nor any drugs on the cash.

Fortunately, the Judge in this case showed no favoritism to police. He said, quote, “The government failed to show a substantial connection between drugs and the money.” The judge ordered the Nebraska state police to return the million dollars immediately in cash or check … and pay back with interest! This may be a proper remedy from the judge, but should taxpayers suffer the consequences of police wrongdoing rather than individuals being held personally liable? Speaking of taxpayers, you can bet this exotic dancer is going to get a 1099 form in the mail tomorrow. Bye bye 40%.

Michael Hastings was a reporter who got too close to the truth. He was killed in a deadly car crash last month after sending a hurried email to his friends explaining that he was afraid and that the feds were watching him. He was the journalist whose Rolling Stone story on McChrystal changed history. Then he similarly slammed Patraeus, and any google search of the name Michael Hastings will reveal an arsenal of journalistic firepower aimed squarely at the establishment.

The events surrounding Hastings’ crash are mysterious to say the least. Friends say he drove like a grandma, but somehow witnesses saw his 2013 Mercedes drive at full speed through a red light, spark from the bottom, and explode before making a sudden 90 degree turn and crash into a tree across several lanes of traffic on a Los Angeles boulevard at 4 in the morning. Autopsies reveal he had not been drinking or doing drugs.

Yesterday, Forbes put out a story about a new type of hacker which can hack into cars. Hackers can override the steering wheel, breaks, gas, and other functions. These hackers are using their powers for good by exposing the vehicle’s weaknesses.

The article specifically mentions that the 2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class, which can negotiate stop-and-go traffic or follow a leader without input, may offer a hacker even more points of attack. The less the driver is involved, the more potential for failure when bad people are tampering with it.

In the meantime, benevolent hackers argue that the best way to pressure car companies to secure their products is to show exactly what can be done with a multi-ton missile on wheels. Better to experience the panic of a digitally hijacked SUV now, than when a more malicious attacker is in control.

Perhaps the most interesting quote from the article comes from the car hacker, who said, quote “If the only thing keeping you from crashing your car is that no one is talking about this, then you’re not safe anyway.”

This week a listener sent us a story about Irena Sendler, a female Schindler. In her lifetime, she successfully smuggled out over 2,500 Jewish babies and toddlers, helping them escape concentration camps by way of suitcases, ambulances, coffins, and sewer pipes. She kept hidden a meticulous record of all their real names and new identities so they might later be re-united with their families.

She had spirited them out of the heavily-guarded Jewish ghetto in Warsaw. She was beaten, tortured and sentenced to death by the Gestapo – who even announced her execution. But Irena survived, her secrets untold. She died just 5 years ago, in her modest Warsaw apartment, aged 98.

Modest about her achievements, she said, quote, “I was brought up to believe that a person must be rescued when drowning, regardless of religion and nationality. The term ‘heroine’ irritates me greatly. The opposite is true. I continue to have pangs of conscience that I did so little.”

A few months before she died, she said, quote, “After World War II, it seemed that humanity understood something, and nothing like that would happen again. Humanity has understood nothing. Religious, tribal, national wars continue. The world continues to be in a sea of blood.”

But she added: “The world can be better if there’s love, tolerance and humility.”

Scientists at Wake Forest University’s Military Research Center have developed a method of 3D printing new skin cells onto burn wounds. The method is far superior to traditional skin grafts because regular grafts require skin from a donor site somewhere on the patient’s body. Taking skin from a donor site is painful and sometimes the patients don’t even have enough unburned skin to transplant.

First a laser scans the patient’s burn, and that information gets translated into a personalized plan for filling the wound up with cells. Then a modified inkjet printer lays down the cells individually, one layer at a time until the burned area is completely covered.

This week, 16-year-old Daily Caller intern Gabe Finger was called upon to ask a question of White House press secretary Jay Carney, and he completely stumped him into stunned silence.  The question he asked was, “Because of the death threats being received by George Zimmerman and his parents, is the President going to take any action for their security, or are they on their own?” Kudos to Gabe for courageously questioning a powerful figure.

In a story that went instantly viral, George Zimmerman of the recent Trayvon Martin case came out of hiding yesterday to assist a man whose truck had turned over on the highway, saving his life.

Mayor Mike Dunafon of Glendale, Colorado was featured on the Blaze recently in an article which highlighted his Libertarian principles and how they have helped to rapidly change the landscape of Glendale from crumbling to thriving.

Refusing to have his marriage endorsed by the state, he met his stripper fiance when her successful stripclub was under attack by the local government. The mayor at the time said he’d rather see the 300 women on welfare, despite the fact that they wanted to keep their jobs. Dunafon was furious, and with just 31 days until the next election, he went door to door with strippers and beer registering voters. After winning a landslide victory, he sent half of city hall packing.

Dunafon said that his political philosophy is about deregulating our lives. “For instance,” he says, quote, “next month we’re taking a law off the books that precludes pool tables from bars in Glendale.  Now this was an obscure law we didn’t know existed.”

Speaking of deregulation, the government can’t control bitcoin. Learn about this empowering new currency at WeUseCoins.com.
