Danny Panzella Arrested, Joins PNN Live Sunday Show
Super-activist Danny Panzella of TruthSquad.tv was arrested earlier this morning inside Pennsylvania Station in New York City for criminally dispensing information to passers-by who voluntarily accepted his fliers. Danny was informing the blissfully ignorant public of the latest “drill” by NYPD conditioning the sheeple to act obedient during a subway crisis. During today’s “drill,” the city’s blue light gang released a potentially hazardous gas into the subway, contaminating the airways of innocent passengers.
Which action is criminal? Dispensing toxic gas into the lungs of the unconsenting, or dispensing pamphlets informing them about it?
Danny will give us the details Sunday during the live-show from 5-7p EST at LRN.fm. Tune in live to call in and ask Danny a question!

The Daily Chronic Reports:
A group in Germany calling itself quote, ”A Few Autonomous Flower Children” said in an open letter that they spread several pounds of marijuana seeds around the city as a protest against Germany’s “restrictive drug policies.”
The letter read, “We can’t set eyes on this useful and beautiful plant because it’s absolutely forbidden in Germany to grow it.”
A police spokeswoman said investigators are seeking the planters for narcotics charges.
Police and parks officials have discovered and destroyed 70 plants so far and are expecting to destroy more as the investigation continues.

Ian Freeman reports good news from the Shire at FreeKeene.com:
Keene district court judge Runyon has dismissed the case brought against Ian regarding their claim that he needs to have interconnected, AC-operated smoke detectors in his tenants’ home, which was raided by code enforcers and the fire chief in 2012.
After a court hearing on the validity of the warrant authorizing the search in the first place, Runyon issued an order invalidating the fire inspection part of the search warrant and throwing out all evidence collected by the fire chief, Gary LaFreniere.
The city’s attorney, Thom Mullins then motioned the court to reconsider, which was denied.
Meanwhile, Ian filed a motion to dismiss the case, since the complaint was written by the fire chief, whose evidence had been deemed inadmissible.
That motion has been granted. Case dismissed!
This case is a perfect example of why homeowners should not roll over for code enforcement and zoning threats.
Many times, like this one, the state aggressors don’t even have a valid case under their own system’s rules!
You never find out if you just take the plea deal or do as they are demanding.
It’s people’s continued capitulation that just encourages the state people to continue to come up with new ways to control you and your friends and family.
I suggest you don’t take the plea, whether on threats against your property, victimless traffic tickets (parking, speeding, etc), drugs, or other consensual “crimes”. Make them prove their case in court.
Make them work for their conviction – if they get it. Don’t be surprised if you have your charge dropped right before trial or they come to you with an even better plea deal.
Of course, doing all these things is more effective if you are around others who are doing the same. That’s one big reason to move to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project, if you love liberty, that is.
The smoke alarm case is yet another win under activists’ belts in 2013, which has been an amazingly successful year in courts. And there’s much more to come in Keene: Robin Hooders are on trial August 12th at 9am at Superior Court and then Ian will be in Hillsboro district court for a speeding ticket trial on Sept 5th at 9:30am.
In other speeding ticket news, Free Keene blogger Conan had his speeding ticket dismissed from Keene district court when he showed up for trial yesterday, but the sheriff who ticketed him did not! Another win!

Thanks to bitcoin, it’s about to become a lot easier to move money in Africa. M-Pesa, a successful mobile money platform in Sub-Saharan Africa, is embracing bitcoin. The service will give rise to transactions with negligible fees (~$0.04), and could dramatically slash revenues of existing money transfer services like Moneygram, Western-Union and Paypal. More than a third of all Kenyans and 5 million Tanzanians already use M-Pesa.
Now, Kipochi, a bitcoin wallet service, is being integrated into M-Pesa. A team of 8,300 brand agents is also currently canvassing East India, targeting ‘unbanked’ people.
Kipochi offers people without bank accounts an easily portable currency which is global in use, secure, transparent, free of inflation, and low cost to use.
Linked with M-Pesa, Kipochi could quickly become the cheapest way for expats to send their money home.

Speaking of uses for bitcoin, a video was released yesterday by Red Pill Recording in which bigtime movers and shakers in the bitcoin community sit down to discuss the ability for bitcoin to subvert governments. The panel discussion took place at PorcFest X and features SatoshiDice’s Erik Voorhees, Lamassu Bitcoin Ventures’ Josh Harvey, Bitcoin Magazine’s Vitalik Buterin, and Coinapult’s Ira Miller and Gabriel Sukenik
The panel covered topics ranging from agorism to free speech, and the video is well worth watching. Link in the show notes.

Erik Kain reports for Forbes:
Drug warriors often contend that drug use would skyrocket if we were to legalize or decriminalize drugs in the United States. Fortunately, we have a real-world example of the actual effects of ending the violent, expensive War on Drugs and replacing it with a system of treatment for problem users and addicts.
Ten years ago, Portugal decriminalized all drugs. One decade after this unprecedented experiment, drug abuse is down by half:
Health experts in Portugal said Friday that Portugal’s decision 10 years ago to decriminalise drug use and treat addicts rather than punishing them is an experiment that has worked.
The number of addicts considered “problematic” — those who repeatedly use “hard” drugs and intravenous users — has fallen by half since the early 1990s.
This development can not only be attributed to decriminalisation but to a confluence of treatment and risk reduction policies.
Many of these innovative treatment procedures would not have emerged if addicts had continued to be arrested and locked up rather than treated by medical experts and psychologists.
Currently 40,000 people in Portugal are being treated for drug abuse. This is a far cheaper, far more humane way to tackle the problem.
Rather than locking up 100,000 criminals, the Portuguese are working to cure 40,000 patients and fine-tuning a whole new canon of drug treatment knowledge at the same time.
None of this is possible when waging a war.

The rate of global bitcoin adoption has slowed dramatically since peaking in April, but a number of standout locales are bucking the trend and seeing surges of enthusiasm. We noted China’s massive increase in adoption early last month, but a new outlier has since arisen: Argentina.
Between June and July, the South American nation’s share of global bitcoin downloads more than doubled from just over 1% to nearly 3%. In fact, of the countries ranking in the top 50 most bitcoin client downloads in June, Argentina is the only one to increase its rate of download so far this month.
In a story familiar to any bitcoin enthusiast, the digital currency is being sought after for two key reasons: debasement of national fiat and increasing capital controls. Inflation has been a significant problem for Argentina for years, but has come to the forefront after a series of public events highlighted just how bad the problem had become.

But what can you buy with Bitcoin? Literally millions of things! And now among them, legal representation:
On July 1, Law Firm Nesenoff & Miltenberg LLP took the step to provide the option for payment in Bitcoin. The Bitcoin currency is not a new concept to this Manhattan based full-service commercial law firm as Nesenoff & Miltenberg LLP, otherwise known as “N&M”, provides legal services for Bitcoin related businesses. N&M finally made the significant step of providing clients an opportunity to pay for services with Bitcoin through BitPay Inc, the lead Bitcoin payment processing company.
Kudos, N&M.

Kirt Radia Reports for ABC News:
Fugitive NSA leaker Edward Snowden today applied for asylum in Russia and, as a condition, agreed to stop harming the U.S., according to a Russian lawyer who is advising him, but that doesn’t necessarily mean headline-grabbing stories about the U.S. government’s vast foreign and domestic spying programs will stop.
Putin has said that Snowden can stay in Russia, but only if he stops “harming” the United States by releasing more intelligence secrets. Speaking with Russia’s Interfax news agency, Kucherena said that he asked if Snowden would “abide by the conditions” imposed by Putin and said that Snowden replied, “I will fulfill his condition.”
But while Snowden agreed to stop leaking secrets, it could prove a technicality since he has already said that he gave all of his classified information — thousands of documents — to several journalists. The most prominent of which, The Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald, told ABC News Friday that he’s not even half done with the stories he plans to write based on the secret information.

Gay marriage was banned by the Colorado constitution in 2006.
But this didn’t stop the Colorado Attorney General’s office from filing a discrimination complaint against Masterpiece Cakeshop for not baking a cake for a gay couple.
The Colorado Attorney General’s office filed a discrimination complaint against the owners of Masterpiece Cakeshop, who last year declined to make a cake for a Denver couple. The couple had their marriage ceremony in Massachusetts and wanted the cake for a hometown celebration.
Jack Phillips, one of the owners of Masterpiece Cakeshop, had cited his Christian beliefs in refusing the men’s business. Last summer Phillips told a television interviewer quote, “We would close down the bakery before we compromised our beliefs.”
The owner faces up to 12 months in jail for not baking a cake for the gay couple.

An Oregon man has been jailed for 30 days for collecting rainwater and snow runoff in three reservoirs that he had built on his own property.
Gary Harrington, of Eagle Point, was found guilty two weeks ago for violating a 1925 law which says all water is publicly owned.
Harrington, 64, was convicted of nine misdemeanors, and received a $1,500 fine in addition to the jail term.
Following his conviction, he said quote, ‘When it comes to the point where a rural landowner can’t catch rainwater that falls on his land to protect his property, it’s gone too far.’
Harrington surrendered himself to authorities to begin his prison term and said that he was sacrificing himself to stand up for liberty.
Decades earlier, Harrington constructed two dams measuring at 10 and 20 feet, and has since collected nearly 13million gallons of water in his man-made ponds, which is enough to fill 20 Olympic-sized pools. He also built boat docks and stocked the reservoirs with trout and Bluegill for recreational fishing.
Oregon’s Water Resources Department said that while it is legal to set up rainwater collection barrels on roofs or other surfaces, Harrington’s reservoirs went far beyond that and required permits.
The state initially approved and issued permits for Harrington’s water collection pools on his 170-acre property in 2003, but years later changed the bureaucrats arbitrarily changed their minds.
Harrington has been ordered to drain his three reservoirs, he remains persistently defiant. He said that he is only collecting rainwater for personal use and fire suppression, and that the state is infringing upon his rights.
He told CNSNews.com, quote, “The government is bullying. They’ve just gotten to be big bullies and if you just lay over and die and give up, that just makes them bigger bullies.”
His legal adviser said they are willing to fight the issue all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

A recently-published Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that children who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have “significantly lower” IQ scores than those who live in low fluoride areas.
The 32-page report can be downloaded free in these show notes.
There are now more than 23 human studies and over 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage.
Fluoride is added to toothpaste to protect your teeth, yes, but that’s why you spit it out. So why is the government still adding a known neurotoxin to the public drinking water?

Some people take full personal responsibility for what they choose to put in their bodies. If you’re one of them, you might be interested to learn that there have been several recent court cases where families have been granted damage payouts due to what vaccines and their ingredients have done to their children. The cases are directly linked to autism and brain damage, and each injury has been deemed, quote, “caused by vaccines.”

Speaking of eliminating viruses, the Economic Development Administration, or EDA, was recently notified of a potential malware infection on some of its computers.
The EDA’s CIO, fearing that the agency was under attack from a nation-state, insisted instead on a policy of physical destruction. The EDA destroyed not only (uninfected) desktop computers but also printers, cameras, keyboards, and even mice. The destruction only stopped because the agency had run out of money to pay for destroying the hardware.
The total cost to the taxpayer of this incident was $2.7 million dollars. Full recovery took close to a year.

A taxicab driver in the UK was falsely accused of rape this week. After being thrown into a jail cell, the man was finally vindicated when he presented evidence on his phone proving that he was innocent. Though many rail against the surveillance state, private surveillance is a useful tool for providing an objective record of your innocence. The cabbie knew his CCTV was broken that evening, and so he switched on an audio recorder on his phone. That was enough to prove that Astria Berwick was a passenger like any other — simply rode in the cab and went on her way. But after the ride, Astria called police and told them that she had been the victim of a serious sexual assault inside Asif’s cab. It was a complete lie.
Now thanks to the objective record held by Asif’s phone, Astria’s lie is exposed. She now sits behind bars on a sentence of 16 months for a charge of perverting the course of justice.

As Ramadan begins, 120 hunger-strikers in Guantánamo Bay continue their protest. More than 40 of them are being force-fed. A leaked document sets out the military instructions, or standard operating procedure, for force-feeding detainees. In a four-minute film made by Human Rights organisation Reprieve and Bafta, award-winning director Asif Kapadia, US actor and rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), experiences the procedure first-hand.
What is happening in Guantanamo Bay is hidden from public view. There are people who, for months, have been dressing up in American soldier uniforms, strapping down innocent people to chairs, and forcing baby formula into their stomachs through tubes inserted into their noses.
Nobody likes to see what is happening in Guantanamo. But if the public refuses to look at what’s happening, then it will continue.
Most of the men remaining at Guantanamo have been cleared for release from the detention center not only by the Obama Administration but also by the Bush Administration years ago! They are wholly innocent both in reality and in the eyes of the government, however the government continues for years to torture their bodies in a secretive facility outside of US soil.
I encourage listeners of this program to get creative and produce media highlighting the abuses of Guantanamo Bay and challenging others to face the reality of what’s happening there. It’s good to focus on the positive, but noncooperation with evil is as much a responsibility as cooperation with good. Do your part to withhold your support for torturers.

Intellihub reports that Psilocybin Mushrooms Promote Growth of New Brain Cells, and can Even Cure PTSD And Depression, according to a recent study by the University of South Florida.
Dr. Juan Sanchez-Ramos, who co-author of the study, exclaimed of his lab mice, “They simply lost their fear.”
Much more research could be done by ordinary people and professors alike, if governments around the world weren’t at war with peaceful drug users. Psilocybin mushrooms are illegal in the United States, and other countries. Scientists are eager to look into the idea of using Psilocybin Mushrooms to cure (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), chronic depression, and a wide range of other mental and physical ailments, but doing so would require disobeying agents of the state. These mushrooms are harmless, cannot cause overdose, and unlike disobedience to the state, cannot cause death.

Agora Seed Exchange is an internet based company connecting farmers to heirloom seeds.
Heirloom seeds yield plants whose DNA comes from early periods in human history. For generations they have been maintained by gardeners and farmers, particularly in isolated or ethnic communities. This keeps the DNA of the plants rich and diverse. Seeds from monocultural plots lack this biodiversity and nutrition.
Since heirloom seeds are not used for large-scale commercial agriculture, they are ideal for everyday people like you to plant in your home garden. Organic and 100% natural, these heirloom seeds are available through their Facebook page.
Run by activist Eddie Free and organic farmer Melissa Moran, the Agora Seed Exchange has been in operation since April of 2013.
Part of the strategy for survival in a tumultuous world is to become self-sufficient in producing your own food, and to eat foods that are rich and nutrient dense.
Procure your own heirloom seeds from Agora Seed Exchange by sending them a message through Facebook.

The Financial Times produced a video yesterday in which Maija Palmer reports from a Bitcoin Conference. Several Free Staters appear in the video, including Zach & Josh Harvey, and Erik Voorhees. In a brief interview with Josh, he makes the point that the Bitcoin landscape is developing around tech centers like Silicon Valley, New York City, and Boston, where bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and nightclubs all accept bitcoin. Erik notes that bitcoin’s growth has been totally organic and adds that it will continue to grow as long as people find it useful. And with ever-increasing bank fees, regulations, and controls on investments, more & more people are opting for alternatives. Whether you are paying your friend at the bar or programmers in India, bitcoin can be sent instantly and for negligible cost. With the high speed and low cost of transmission, digital money is an inevitability.
The video also features one of the reporters from the Financial Times using the Lamassu bitcoin ATM to transfer her currency from Great British Pounds to bitcoins in just a few seconds. The design of the machine is sharp and this video does a great job of highlighting the most important facts about bitcoin.

Speaking of bitcoin, Phillip Archer writes in a blogpost at theGenesisBlock.com yesterday that significant improvements are planned for the next version of the bitcoin software. These changes are pretty technical, and I recommend reading the article to grasp its full meaning, but in essence, there will be improvements in 4 major areas: ease of use, recurring payments, dispute resolution and immediate feedback.
I am most excited by the prospect of easily implementing recurring payments, something that would benefit most bitcoin-based charities.
Plus, subscription services have been hesitant to implement bitcoin as a payment feature because of the lack of ability to bill customers at regular intervals.
These changes will likely lead to more adoption of Bitcoin as the technology and the market matures.

Ian Freeman blogs at FreeKeene.com:
Jon Meyer is an attorney based in Manchester, New Hampshire, whose normal focus is on employment-related cases, however he is also renown as one of the best lawyers in America on the subject of free speech.
Formerly an attorney with the NH Civil Liberties Union, in recent years Meyer won a major free speech case at the NH Supreme Court involving a man in a bigfoot costume on Mt. Monadnock. Additionally and more recently he trounced then-Cheshire-Sheriff Dick Foote in court and had Foote’s no trespass orders against local liberty activists (banning us from court property) overturned as unconstitutional.
Now, Meyer has made the time in his busy schedule for the Robin Hood of Keene case where the people calling themselves “the city” are suing several Robin Hooders in hopes of creating a 50ft anti-freedom radius around the meter maids.
Meyer filed his appearance this week in Cheshire superior court on behalf of five of the six defendants, with Copblock.org‘s Pete Eyre deciding not to opt-in to having an attorney.
To be clear, Meyer is donating his valuable time to the cause, pro-bono, and is up against the city people’s hired gun (paid by your tax dollars) private attorneys, including renown civil rights attorney Charles P. Bauer.

Danny Panzella of TruthSquad.TV posted a video this week in which he tracks down the owner of an illegally parked vehicle and finds that it belongs to a New York City Councilwoman. He walks right up to her, camera rolling, and addresses the situation, asking her if she thinks it’s right or necessary to park where others would get a ticket.
Danny perfectly highlights the hypocrisy of those in power and takes a personal stand against people acting as if they have extra rights.
Kudos, Danny! If everyone held bureaucrats personally responsible for their actions, what a different world it could be.

In CAIRO, Egypt’s military suspended the constitution Wednesday and ordered new elections, ousting the country’s first freely elected president after he defied army demands to implement radical reforms or step down.
Army chief of staff Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, speaking on national television in front of a row of prominent political and religious leaders, said the military was forced to act after President Mohammed Morsi had refused for weeks to set up a national reconciliation government.
Al-Sisi said the chief judge of the constitutional court, backed by technical experts, would have full powers to run the country until the constitution is amended and new elections are held. Adli al-Mansour, the 67-year-old head of Egypt’s supreme constitutional court, is to be sworn in Thursday as interim president, state media reported.

John Bush posted the following message to the blog at SovereignLiving.TV:
“Egyptian protestors – give self-governance a try! It is likely that the next ruler will be just like the rest of them. It may take a while but as Lord Acton said, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. You may not be able to have total liberty all across the country, but at least take a couple million of you and create a sustainable and autonomous region or two. What better opportunity than now do you have a chance at experimenting with a radical new way to organize society. Give mutually beneficial voluntary association a try and abandon the old way of coercion, hierarchy, and despair. If democracy is what you desire, explore direct democracy, where the individual chooses if he or she wishes to participate. You may not get another shot at it in a while. Why not try something new? We’ll be watching. Good luck. Peace and Freedom for ALL.”

Despite sweltering heat and barely tolerable humidity, hundreds marched through New York City on Thursday to protest against mass spying by the U.S. National Security Agency.
About 500 people met in Union Square to listen to a number of privacy advocates and civil liberties groups discuss Fourth Amendment rights as they stand today, in light of recent revelations about the U.S. government’s spying capability.
According to the organizers, Independence Day is a poignant day to protest in support of citizens’ constitutional rights for protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, which they claim have been eroded under both the Bush and Obama administrations.
People of all ages, from children to elderly folk, joined in the march, which snaked through the midtown area of Manhattan. The police presence was heavy — more so to control the traffic than the crowds. Many marchers were chanting slogans, but the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
More than 100 protests are being held around the U.S. and Europe, as far as San Francisco; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; London; and Munich, according to the Restore the Fourth group.
The protesters are calling for an end to dragnet surveillance conducted by U.S. intelligence agencies, an investigation into domestic spying, and accountability on the part of public officials for what the protestors call quote “unconstitutional surveillance.”
Also, in a move reminiscent of the anti-SOPA actions of 2012, dozens of popular and high-profile Web sites, such as Mozilla, Reddit, WordPress, and Imgur, joined in publicly protesting the scope and reach of the Patriot Act and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which paved the way for NSA programs like PRISM.

Speaking of government spying, the parliamentary members of the Pirate Party in Iceland are pushing for to grant immediate citizenship to Edward Snowden. Iceland has taken a strong stance on internet freedom, coming to the defense of Julian Assange when WikiLeaks first came under attack. There were even 3 members of the Pirate Party elected to Parliament this year.
You can’t stop an idea whose time has come.
